The best example of a "McCandless Type" character is Wayne Westerberg. He hated supporting unjust systems. This is present by his arrest for making and selling "black boxes" which illegally scramble cable television transmissions. Wayne also respected how intelligent Chris was and how much effort he would put into his job. Chris treated Wayne as a family figure because he was estranged from is biological family. Chris continued to send him letters on his trip, which shows his closeness to Wayne.
